A few years ago, while working as a magazine writer and editor, I started to bring my camera with me on assignments. As I figured out how to combine reporting and photography, I realized that taking pictures was quickly opening new pathways—not only for telling stories but also for understanding them, and for finding them in the first place. Since 2016 I’ve been mostly in the field as a writer-photographer, contributing pieces about travel and culture to Condé Nast Traveler, Departures, Travel + Leisure, Saveur and W, among others. Previously I was the deputy editor of W in New York and bureau chief in Paris and L.A.; I've also written for Architectural Digest, New York and Bloomberg. Currently I'm based in L.A. though I spend several months of the year on the road.
